We live in Texas, so if there is a threat of ice, we cancel school. And that would be what happened today. There was a little bit of ice this morning but it's all clear now. Very cold, but clear! All morning we staid in our pj's and watched the Biggest Looser Dvr'd. (I cried). All 4 cats were snuggled on us. What a cute bunch they are!

Today I spent the day at the hospital with my Granny. She's been so sick for the last two months and we can't figure out why. She's always been in great health, and not much of a complainer, so this has been very puzzling. However, yesterday they seemed to have gotten her pain more under control and she was able to keep a little bit of food down. For 88 she's a tough ole gal! And I love her!

I worked on a little project today for Lindsey's room. This is the middle piece. Her initials. They are all cork boards and won't go on this wall. They will go on the opposite wall above her desk. Hopefully Daddy can get them hung tonite!

I know this isn't very exciting or technically anything cool. But it's what I did today. It's such a pretty purple that she picked. I thought it was going to be a nightmare having the girls help, but they did great and knocked out the major part of the walls while we did the ceiling and cut ins. Now, I see why people paint. It looks so nice and fresh. Can I keep this up to do Logan's next weekend???

Yeah, I kept my promise! Well I actually forgot until the kids asked me to take a photo of Allie can you beleive she climbed up the wall like that? So why is the bed laying against the wall? We've been needing to repaint Lindsy's room for a while now. Yes, she's 11 and has a blue sky and clouds on her ceiling. Pretty and cute for 6 but now on the verge of pre-teen years (ok, she's IN the pre-teen years!) She needs a little updating.

So today is the first day of 2010. It sounds so weird to say, you know? Twenty-Ten, Two thousand-ten. Humm. I have expectations for myself in 2010. I vow to be better at blogging. Now that facebook has come around blogging has lost the appeal. But I would like to continue my POTD. When I look back over the past two years of POTD, I see how much I have grown and learned. So I see the benefit of continuing to post. However, being this first day of the year and I haven't picked up anything other then my head and the computer for the last 10 hours. I have had a migraine all day and I can't even say I have New years Eve to blame for it. So please forgive me, and lets move on. I'll post two tomorrow.

We had such an amazing trip. We staid in a wonderful condo right on the beach. It was my first time in Destin and I had done alot of research on places to stay. But it was so different actually being down there and seeing it all. It we decide to go back, I already have a folder started! LOl

3 Weeks

Can i just tell you how much we love these kittens! They all have different personalities and are so fun. Mama is doing the best job. Can you imagine, 5 babies at once!!! At least it's only for 6 weeks. The girls decided to do the 3 week photo shoot today. Lauren shot the photos while Grayson and Lindsey reigned them in. She didn't do that bad. I set the camera on auto though. but her composition was fairly decent on most of them. I thought this shot was cute of "bugsy". She's the one we will probably keep. such a love.

They all gained at least 2 ounces with Hampsty gaining the most at 3.5 ounces. pretty good.

Here's theodore. He reminds me of my childhood cat, Graysilk.

the girls were trying to get all the cats together. Pumpkin wouldn't cooperate at all. And Lilly wasn't too thrilled either. Poor babies.

2 weeks old

The kittens are two weeks old now. Everyone but Alvin has their eyes open. Today we put them on a blanket and let them crawl around and explore. They are still pretty wobbly, but getting stronger. In one week, they all gained at least an ounce, pretty good when you weigh 1/2 pound!

One of my friends had 9 baby bunnies born the day before our kittens. She brought them over today for us to see. We had a blast getting all the babies together.

We had put all the bunnies in the kitten box and then Mama jumped in. She just looked around and laid down. She definitely knew they were different, but she actually licked a few. She didn't seem to care one bit.

today was the day we have been looking forward to for so long!!! Little Lilly had her babies!! Here she was 2 weeks ago. I wish I had taken some recently. She was so wide!

Lilly was VERy affectionate this morning and I had a feeling something was up. About 7:20, she started having contractions. Thankfully today is field day at school, so we were cool with being late. Lauren was so concerned and loving to her.

Here's the first one! Lindsey named it Alvin.

Where has this year gone?

So I did the workout every DAY last week!!! Can I get a "Good job!" I'm pretty impressed with myself. I'm actually starting to feel not so weak and I'm able to get through those jumping jacks much easier now. I might move to level 2 by the end of this week. So Mother's Day was yesterday. It's so hard for me to even think of it as a special day. I think only people who have lost their Mom's understand. I dont think of myself as a Mother. I think of myself as a motherless daughter.

I think that the months of April and May are by far busier then the holidays. There is just not enough time in the day! Practices, games, TAKS tests, tutors, homework, Spring photos, not to mention the regular stuff like laundry and cleaning. I do like to be busy though. It's nice to HAVE something to do, rather then HAVE to do it. And that's really how we feel about it. The kids love playing sports and never complain about practices or games. We are blessed with that. Also, of course we've had rain outs and swine flu cancellations, it's kinda nice to have an unexpected day at home.

It's been interesting watching Lindsey in softball. She started off ready to go, working hard. Then about two weeks in, she realized she wasn't doing much. Kinda the same as sitting on the sidelines like last year. Except last year, she could read a book. Then last week something clicked in her. And she's really starting to enjoy herself. She's the ultimate cheerleader on the field of course and always ready while in the dugout to bust out something. She's perfect for that. But she's also learning to pay attention and be a part of conversations that Dad and lauren have. Dad got her to try pitching and she loved it. Who knows what will happen with that. But for now, she's good. She's happy.

As for me. I'm back on the wagon again. I'm doing the Live strong challenge. It's great and tracks what you are eating and how you are exercising. That really helps to keep me on track. Plus I have started the 30 Day shred with Julian Michaels. Oooh fun. Not. yeah, 20 minutes of awful. But 20 minutes is not much, I can handle that. I don't have to get up too early and it's quick. Plus the added bonus. I've found that when I have on tennis shoes, I do more. Seriously, think about it. When you have shoes on that you can easily kick off, you do, you sit down and, kick your shoes off. But when you have tennis shoes on, it's not so appealing to curl your feet up and relax on the couch. So this morning I cleaned out the garage and ran all my errands. I vowed not to sit down until I had gotten through my list. And I did. So for today, I'm doing GREAT. I'm kinda proud of myself! Now about tomorrow...

Fires

About 2:00 this afternoon I started smelling smoke. I went outside and the whole sky way brown and I could see flames and black smoke. Pretty scary. It turns out it had started on the road to the kids school about 3 miles West from me. Burned all the way to my neighborhood. Two houses have been damaged, i don't know how bad yet. They say as of now they have it contained. But these winds are awful and there are ashes flying everywhere. This first picture is from my front porch looking West. The sky is completely filled with smoke and you can see on the tree line white smoke. this is across the street you can see the valley just beyond our neighbors house. It's completely filled with smoke.

We have been very lucky and safe. Hopefully these will stay contained. But there are many other fires around here and surrounding areas burning.

softball

I only thought we had busy weekends before. Welcome to the world of select softball games. Our weekend started inicent enough. Logan had a game (at home) Friday night. He did great, made several outs and 2 good hits. Then Saturday came. I have to admit, I never thought that I would be a fanatical "ball Mom". Satuday, we had 6 games, in 3 different cities. I drove 242 miles total and we did 5 changes of clothes in the car. It was quite a day. Lauren's playing for a select team called Weatherford Thunder. They were playing a tournament in Mansfield. We had games at 9 and 10. Each was an hour long. Gary staid in Weatherford with Logan and Lindsey to go to opening ceremonies. At 11:15, I jumped in the car from Mansfield and drove to Azle after a quick change at Mcdonalds (and some lunch) we played our Weatherford LL game. Gary coaches this team and Lindsey plays also. They are the Heat. Lauren pitched this game. I have never seen pitch this well ever. She has improved so much. She had several strike outs and fielded a couple to throw them out on first. It was so exciting to watch.

Then Logan and I had to jump in the car and go back to Weatherford for his game. Gary went back to Mansfield with Lauren for the 4:30 game. Then we had a break until 7:00. Gary had a fishing tournament today, so I had to go back this morning on my own. Lauren pitched again and did well. But she was up against 30 mph winds and it was tough. Overall, we lost, but gained some very valuable experience and Lauren had fun. Next weekend is Easter then we start tournaments again weekend after that!

Lindsey got her first report card with straight A's!!! I cannot tell you how proud we are of her! She worked so hard. She would come home from school saying how she listened really hard today and felt that she "got it". I had told her that if she got straight a's, I would take her for a full pedicure. So yesterday was the day. She was so thrilled and just loved it!

Okay after last year from blogging every day, to barely blogging, I don't know what's going on. This year is just flying! It's almost April, just no way. So quick update I guess.
For spring break we went to Ruidoso with Stephen and Tiffany, Vickie and Tiffany's parents. Not much snow, but the kids had a ball. One slight incident with my knee, but I'm all better now. It's amazing how the kids are taking to skiing. I would love to be able to take us all to Colorado for a week. Maybe one day!

Yes, I know. I've just kinda gotten off, but I hope to be better!

We all just finished basketball season. Logan's team was undefeated, mostly due to Logan scoring at least half the teams points in every game. I'm really proud of him, not because he scored but because he really played well. He followed the rules, passed and was a great defender.

The girls moved up to a regulation size goal with 4th and 5th graders. Lauren was the tallest on her team. Every team they played had at least 2 players who were about a foot taller than her. Not exactly fair when they can reach over you and grab the ball. But we fought hard every game. I've never been so satisfied with a losing season in any sport. They played their hearts out. The girls were really starting to work well together, passing and blocking for each other. Lindsey made 4 baskets throughout the year, this was a huge feat for her! She is a great defender and won't let that girls around her for anything!

Lindsey got straight A's on her report card for the first time ever. She worked so hard this 6 weeks and it paid off. Her glasses have seemed to make a huge improvement in her reading and tracking. Logan continues to improve in reading and is doing awesome in Math. He's just right on track. Lauren, fortunately has it easy. She isn't as passionate about working hard as her sister is. but has managed to pull off mostly A's with a couple of high B's.

Softball/Baseball has started and we are in full swing. Gary is coaching the girls again. Plus Lauren is playing on a select traveling team when she is able. She is pitching for both teams, and learning how to be catcher. When she's off, she plays short or third. Lindsey backs up first or third because she's so quick to the ball! Logan has a great coach and we hope that his team does well this year. He's in a coach pitch league this year, but is already looking forward two years until he can be a pitcher. Gary wants to put him in lessons next year. Something about a left hander pitcher being gold?

They really are great kids, and absolutely love being active. Hopefully it will keep them out of trouble when the teen years hit!

Brooke ordered me a new camera strap for Christmas. And I loved it so much! I got to chatting with the designer and was telling her that I really needed a camera bag/purse that I could carry for everyday casual things. Like on a field trip, or class party or just to the park. She was happy to come up with a design and really outdid herself. I'm so excited! Isn't it darling?!!!!

Gary was out of town for 5 days. Wow that was a Looooooonnnng time!
We missed him so bad. On Friday night, the girls and I took Granny out to dinner and to target. She's such a great grandma. she's 87 year old and still wishes she could drive. Can you imagine not having the freedom to jump into the car. Now don't get my wrong, she does NOT need to be driving. But I can't help but feel bad for her. I really admire her daughter ( my Aunt). She does everything for this very independant woman. But I digress, Granny needed a vaccumm belt so off to target we went. The girls so enjoyed helping her find things they thought she needed and I chuckeled listening to her complain about the price. At dinner she told us how back in her day, they always finished their plates, because to leave food would be wasteful. I dont' think they had the portions like they do now.
The girls asked Granny to make them some doll clothes for Christmas. She didn't get them all done in time and this night she brought them to dinner. I can't tell you how special this was. Lauren was so excited about the red coat and silk dress. Granny really outdid herself. I hope she enjoyed making them as much the girls like them. It was truly a labor of love.

After an evening of playing, I had sent the girls to bed and came up later to check on them. This is the sweetness I found!

Daddy coming home!!! We got to meet him at the airport. It was the first time the kids had even been there.

It's amazing how much we miss him! With the time difference the kids can'talk to him before school, so that's hard on them. Plus he forgot his charger for his phone. So I imagine he has it off. Sigh. What a wonderful Christmas. I hope that everyone had just as blessed Christmas as we did. The kids were so happy with everything and really enjoyed spending time with their cousins and playing.

Santa brought a Wii and games and other accessories. It cracks us up watching them. I guess I'm going to have to try one time.

I know this picture isn't technically correct at all but I think she looks so cute sitting there.

Guess what we did today? Yes the high was 30 degree in Texas! But my Granny has an indoor pool at her retirement home. Lucky us! We took cousins Cole, Grayson and Canon. Then met Brooke and her boys. We all loved it. But I know for Granny it was a thrill.

This picture of Brooke and Garrett cracks me up because Granny took it! She's 87 years young and when she picked up the camera, she looked in the lens first. Then it took her about 30 tries to find the shutter. After she took a group shot, she kept snapping. I don't even think she looked through the lens, but she grabbed this one and I love it!

I've posted a few pictures of my Christmas tree here. But in honor of BooMama's Tour of Homes I wanted to share a few more things from around my house. I love garland, it's draped on my mantle, bookcase and above the TV. I have it on a timer and every evening at 5:15, it turns on, how fun!

This is the fresh wreath that my Dad and StepMom sent us. Love the smell!! ummmm. In the background you can see our advent calendar. It's such a sweet one with little characters from the birth of Jesus. The kids take turns each morning putting them on the manger.

On this bookshelf, I put all of the kids Christmas pictures from over the years. I love seeing how they have changed.

One of our greatest traditions is hanging all the pretty cards we get on the pantry door. The kids love running down to the mailbox and getting all the envelopes.

We unexpectaly had a free evening Friday night and the weather was really nice. So I gathered all 9 kids and the two grandparents for a little shoot. Everyone was so GOOD! Seriously we were finished in 15 minutes. Now that I look back, I wish I had taken a little more time. I just figured it was going to have to be quick. But everyone was still and smiling. My SIL was a lunatic behind me apprently but she's a genius cause it worked!

The nativity scene and chruch on the table was my Mom's. I've always loved this because it as the one thing that I still have that she used and I use. We've broken several people of the years with the kids, but I love it still the same.

The other night we had our hometown Christmas on the Square. The ONLY picture I took was this one. But I love it! It's my girls and some of their best friends.

PS In the picture below, several people asked how I did it. I just set my SS really low, I think at F8. Then I just pressed the shutter down halfway to focus and while I was pressing the shutter down all the way, I made a quick circle with the camera. It turned out pretty cool dont' you think?

Just a few of my Christmas decorations! Can you find Lauren and Lindsey?

Our Christmas tree has changed a little this year. Normally I have several 100 (jk) homemade ornaments and ones that others have given us. It was just getting too overwhelming on the tree. So we simplified this year and put red ornaments and then our special ones. Each child has an ornament and one for our pets we lost. Then there are 17 angels on the tree. Each one I got at Christmas since my Mom has been gone. Each one takes me about 2 weeks to find and each one is special from that year.

Thanksgiving was a beautiful day and all the Lightfoots got to spend it together. Nana and Grankie cooked an awesome meal and I managed to througly stuff myself. I got a little emotional and I'm so thankful for my brother and sister in laws. I really don't know what I would do without you guys. Thanks for loving me!

Oh my goodness I am so behind on blogging! I have many clients for previews, but for now, I have to post a little personal. My youngest turned 7 today. He's such a great kid, I just can't believe he's mine! He's kind and smart adn very athletic. He's helpful and polite and everyone's friend. He made "QT" kid again this 6 weeks, one of a handful of kids who made it for both 6 weeks. I'm so proud of him I could never say enough. He's my miracle child, my son, my Logan.

I just had to share this cake my friend Shelley made for me. Isn't it awesome! Can you tell what teams are my son's favorites?

It is with a heavy heart that I post today. One of my friends lost their battle with cancer this morning. Kyle was an amazing Dad and husband who faught hard for 12 years. I had more mini sessions this weekend which I had a blast with. But more importantly, I got to photograph my own kids doing what they do best. Lauren pitched and did really well,

Here's another family from a mini session this past weekend. This family is so special to me because their Mom was one of the first ones to really encourage me to persue taking pictures. I have photographed these girls for 5 years now and it's been a pleasure watching them grow before my eyes! Plus DS has a thang for Miss M. here! Can you blame him ;)

And Miss H is as stunning as her Mom.

Phew I'm behind by a few days. This weekend I had 3 mini shoots, 1 regular shoot, a birthday party and 4 games (one of which we didn't make it to). I love being busy!
And since I know they are waiting patienly for a sneak peak, here's my new friends the D family.
They are so sweet and fun. The kids were awesome and so beautiful, don't you think?

Finishing up the sessions from this weekend. This family is special to me for numerous reasons. But one of them is this little girl. She was a triplet born at 23 weeks and is a walking miracle. Unfortunately her two brothers passed away. But E lives strong and has overcome so many obstacles. When she was about 15 months old, she got the clearance to be in the public and come to church. I happened to be working in that sunday school room. Her Mom handed her to me and I held her the entire time. The next week she wouldn't go to anyone but me. I've always enjoyed her hugs and sweet sweet smile.

And here's her little brother. Does this one seem a little green to you? On here it does to me, but not in CS3. Interesting.

This family includes one of Lauren's best friends. She plays softball with her. She is such a sweet and loving little girl. Her big brother has some special needs but as you can see the love they have for each other exceeds all boundries.

Here's one more from our pumpkin patch visit. Little Caroline wasn't to sure of me but I just love her beautiful eyes and her precious dress! Maybe one day I can photograph her in not such a busy place. ;)

I started my busy season this weekend. I had several family shoots. I was wishing we had a little more fallish weather, 90 degrees still in shorts doesn't say "family christmas card" photo to me. I had a great time with the M family. He restored this mustang himself and it was a great addition to the pics!

So this past weekend, after all the games, Gary and I took off on vacation. He turned 40 this year as did his best friends. They decided that they wanted to hang out in the ESPN sports zone and watch football. So we booked a trip to Vegas. This was our first time in 5 years to be without the kids!!

I didn't take many pictures and when I did, I had fun with the fish eye. Here are the guys: Mine, David and John.

We had a very busy weekend and I've got to catch up on some blog posts! First we had the kids football/cheerleading game. It was homecoming and they did a great job making the kids feel extra special.

Logan got to carry the ball for the first time. I was a nervous wreck, but he did great!

Okay it's not normal in fall to see little tiny baby ducks. But the other day we were driving into shopping center that has a pond and we saw this! My kids and I FREAKED out and my DH rolled his eyes, but I got the pictures anyway!! LOL. It was bright sun and I was too excited to really think about what I was doing. Aren't they just precious?

I had a great time with these guys! They were so much fun and had tons of fabulous ideas. The boys were hilarious (much to Mom's chagrin!) But I enjoyed them so much. Can you make out my little friend? I shot this this morning and the sky was that color!

Seriously, I hate spiders!! They give me the creeps. But this one fascinates us. Every night as soon as it gets dark, he starts building his web. It's huge running about 3-4 feet wide. Every morning when the sun starts to come up, he starts taking it down. I don't know if he's eating it or recycling, but he goes back and forth until it's all gone, then he disappears until nighttime.

Today starts really really busy time in our life. Lauren starts volleyball, Logan has football then tomorrow Lindsey has cheer, Logan has football and lauren starts softball. It will be like this for the next 8 weeks. Luckily for me, my kids truly love this. Last week they were upset when we had to cancel practices due to the rain. I just have to be more diligent about getting home, doing homework and getting to bed as soon as we are all home. It's a challenge, and I pray for my patience every night because it's truly tested.

Unfortunately, this afternoon, lauren while practicing for softball, somehow hit herself with her bat right on the nose. It's already swollen, I bet she'll have a black eye. but it could have been so much worse. She could have hit directly on her forehead. She could have hit her mouth and cut her lip on her braces or broken a tooth. She could have had her glasses on and broken them. Wait a minute, maybe if she HAD her glasses one she would have seen the bat coming towards her face, KIDDING. I know it was an accident. Poor baby.

My cousin Brooke, Blake and Garretts Mom, (click here) had her baby yesterday. Meet baby Cole. I'm so in love already!!!

Within 5 minutes of being born he was already sucking his thumb.

This is my Granny. She's 87 and an amazing woman. She has 4 kids and 7 grandchildren. But so far her greatest accomplishment, according to her, is her 10 great grandkids. What's so amazing about that, well only two of them ARE NOT twins!!! Yep, 3 of my cousins also have twins. Pretty cool huh?

This is my Aunt Verety, Brooke's Mom. She's my Mom's sister and reminds me so much of her.

First day of school!!! I think all of us were pretty excited. The girls both love their teachers and Logan is thrilled he has some friends in his class. I've heard great things about all of them. I think this will be a great year for us!

No major dramas this morning, everyone was up early and dressed, we made it out the door no problems. I forgot about the first few weeks of school how bad traffic is. so we had to sit in line for a while. But I walked them in with no tears! I'm so happy to be back to a routine and the kids having things to do. They do so much better with the structure of school and interaction between other kids.

Just had to add that these were taken in auto. the school is not such great lighting, and it was kinda chaotic, so I didn't even try manual settings. I should have brought my external flash, but I didn't think that the kids would want me to drag the entire thing in! LOL

I seriously thought Gary was going to loose it. He has been waiting for 7 years since the day we found out we were having a boy. To coach his son in football. Yesterday, we went to a bounce house jumping thing. You know the last week of summer, let the kids have a blast. Two minutes into jumping, Logan is sliding down a slide and all the sudden starts screaming. I still don't know what he did. I thought he had twisted his little pinky toe or something. It was all swollen and red. But as the day went on, the entire top of his foot and side started swelling. We were so afraid that he broke it. Thank goodness the xrays showed he didn't! He just has a really bad sprain. His in this cast for 2 weeks. He burst into tears when I told him he had to wear it to school. He said that everyone was going to make fun of him. Oh my goodness, how do they come up with this. So we talked aobut how cool it was, etc etc. Tonight is meet the teacher, so it will be a good ice breaker. And Gary he's just thrilled he has his little star blocker coming back for the second game. *fingers crossed*

I'm taking a break from wedding with an announcement. presenting our newest family member...

Isn't she adorable! Gary found her on the side of the road Monday night. He was checking out some land and she came running to him purring. The guy he was with wouldn't let him put her in his truck, so they left. I guess he didn't stop thinking of her cause last night he told us about her and suggested we go back. We drove up to the same spot and started calling Kitty. She came running. It breaks my heart to think that someone is missing her. But there wasn't any houses around. We named her Lilly. Pumpkin is really interested but Lilly hisses when he comes near. Hopefully they will learn to get along.

It rained so hard yesteday for the first time in a few months. I let the kids play out in it.

Still going through wedding pics. This will take a while! LOL. Here's a few more. Just a few answers to questions. We were in a huge rush. It was a Catholic church and they were starting mass literally 30 minutes after the ceromony. Then we had to rush to the reception. Our choices for group shots was very limited. I know there are houses and stuff in the backgrounds, should I clone them out?

I'm slowly going through these just as I fee like it. They have been so fun. I walked into the church and this shopping cart was sitting in the foyer. We moved it for the wedding, but pulled it out for afterwards. They were so fun!

I am so very tired! I did a family friends wedding yesterday and I was on my feet for 12 hours! It was fun, stressful and exciting. But I am kinda paying for it today, or, er, my kids are. Not. Nice. Mommy. I guess it's the end of summer, being tired and sore and having so many pictures to go through, I'm a little grumpy. All I want to do is curl up and edit. But three little munchins are demanding my attention. After the 14th "I'm bored." I kinda blew up. You know the not pretty blow up. I made them clean the garage and load up all the recycling. We had a very quiet ride down to the recycler. Then I gave a very stren lecture about being bored and what we were going to do to change that. We went to the library. So now I have not so bored kids, freashly scrubbed, with clean pj's on reading in bed. Much better. I had over 1500 pictures to go through. I quickly weeded through them and I'm down to 942. Oh my gosh, that's alot! Slowly I'll get through these. Here's some of my faves so far though.

This little flower girl was precious. She walked down with the other flower girl, then she skipped back to the back again and started over just as they opened the doors for the bride. She was giggling and skipping the whole way down.

I'm kinda falling behind on blogging and I have quite a few things to blog about, but I had to share these for today of a session I did. This is my HS best friend and her kids. Yesterday was my birthday and she came up to spend the day with me. coulnd't resist borrowing her kids for a little photo shoot! I had some issues with the backlighting on these. For once, I was exposed correctly on the faces, but the backgrounds were way blown out. Any help or CC would be appreciated!
